Lexus LS350 Trademark in Japan Hints at V6 Model

The next-generation Lexus flagship sedan could be offered with a V6 engine.

A recent Lexus LS350 trademark suggests that the Japanese automaker will offer an entry-level model equipped with a V6 engine for the next-generation model. It would mark the first time the luxury sedan is equipped with a V6 engine, which will likely be the 3.5-liter powerplant used in various other models including the ES, RC and IS.

The next-generation Lexus LS was previewed by the LF-FC Concept at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show and the production model is rumored to bow at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show in January.

Along with the entry-level V6 engine, expect the V8 to carry over with minor changes as well as a hybrid variant, just like the current offering. A hydrogen fuel cell version could also be in the lineup, especially since the LF-FC Concept featured a fuel cell system that sent power to both the rear wheels and torque to the front electric motors, making it all-wheel drive.
