2017 Lexus RC F @ Ken Shaw Lexus in Toronto

RC F is the most powerful V8 performance coupe ever developed by Lexus. Boasting chassis and handling dynamics honed to perfection on the gruelling Fuji Speedway and Nürburgring Circuit, this is a Lexus for the most demanding driving enthusiast — a feat of performance engineering to quicken the pulse and maximize excitement.

Lexus RC F is a knockout at every glance, sculpted for optimum aerodynamics and cooling. In profile view, a unique front hood rises. From the front, the striking spindle grille dominates from hood line to lower lip, featuring an RC F-exclusive mesh pattern. L-shaped air scoops flank the grille, followed by a carefully tuned underbody and aero stabilizing fins. At the rear, stacked trapezoidal quad-outlet tailpipes add to the impression of aggressive strength. Two variations of 10-spoke 19” forged aluminum wheels are available by grade, both machine-polished to dazzle.

RC F’s instrument cluster is inspired by the LFA, and channels the spirit of aircraft instrumentation. The centrally mounted tachometer alters colour according to drive mode. At-a-glance information also includes digital and analogue speed readouts, torque vectoring monitor, G-Force meter, and even a stopwatch.

Inside the RC F cockpit, low-set high back seats — with a striking embossed "F" on the headrests — are deeply bolstered and uniquely constructed to disperse body pressure and keep you firmly planted during high-spirited driving.

Lexus RC F features a Lexus-first elliptical cross-section thick-grip steering wheel that feels as if it was moulded to your hands. The wheel’s placement, shape and at-your-fingers paddle shifters make it easier to change gears during performance driving, allowing for total driver engagement when tearing around the track.

At its core, RC F has been engineered for pulse-racing performance. Featuring a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine, capable of 467 HP and 389 lb.ft. torque, RC F more than lives up to its bold performance-inspired ideals. For the first time in a Lexus performance engine, RC F uses the Atkinson cycle at cruising speeds and then switches to the Otto cycle for higher RPM, delivering high levels of fuel efficiency along with its impressive 7300-rpm range.

A uniquely tuned 8-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission offers manual control through steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and, when not in Manual mode, detects curves and holds the lower gear throughout to give optimal response when accelerating out. Purpose-designed sound and power delivery sensations create a deep tone up to 3000 rpm, changing to a higher pitch as revolutions rise freely above 6000 rpm.

As in the Lexus LFA supercar, an active rear wing is stowed in RC F’s trunk lid at speeds of 40km/h and below, helping to enhance fuel efficiency. At speeds of 80km/h or higher (130km/h or higher in ECO mode), the wing automatically deploys to smooth airflow from the roof and ensure excellent down force for handling stability. The wing is a highlight of RC F’s aerodynamic grip and stability package, which also includes careful tuning of the flat underbody, the ducts at the rear of the front bumper and front fenders, and strategic placement of aero-stabilizing fins to optimize airflow at the underfloor.

The available Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) system has been meticulously tuned for precise control of rear wheel torque. Refined through test-drives on the world’s distinguished race circuits to achieve a natural feel, the system optimally transfers torque between left and right tires whether the accelerator is down or not. Control is down to units of 1/1000 of a second.

RC F’s body is highly rigid – a product of specialized manufacturing techniques – with large cross-section rocker panels and a very stiff front lower brace to keep you braced firm and close to the road. Suspension is coil-spring independent front and rear, with monotube gas dampers and ball-jointed stabilizer bars, providing added strength and helping to reduce unsprung weight.

Experience incredible cornering with a choice of three operating modes: Standard for a balance of agility and stability; Slalom for emphasis on nimble steering response; and Track to achieve consistent hold during throttle.

RC F’s Sport Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) predicts and helps prevent skids even before they occur, using a combination of individual-wheel braking, torque modulation and steering torque assistance.. RC F’s VDIM features four modes, including Expert mode for drivers who want proactive slide control as they hone their skills. Also available is the vertical G sensor, detecting when your vehicle leaves the ground – and apply braking force when it lands.

RC F’s muscular strength demands an impressive amount of stopping power. From everyday, restrained usage to powering through race circuits, RC F’s Brembo* disc brakes are designed for high loads with 6-piston front and 4-piston rear monoblock calipers. Slots in the discs help keep your brake pads clean and effective, while spiral fins help ensure excellent cooling.

Inspired by the LFA supercar, RC F’s cockpit instrumentation will set your heart racing. Surrounding you is a large, centrally mounted tachometer that alters according to your selected drive mode, digital and analog speedometers, an available differential torque vectoring monitor, a G-Force meter, and a stopwatch.

RC F’s innovative Remote Touch Interface directly connects a driver to the audio and navigation systems, providing tactile feedback for a smooth and responsive experience.

The touchpad at your side allows you to manipulate menus on the in-dash screen above, with one hand at the controls and the other never leaving the wheel.

Lexus RC offers sublime craftsmanship for sport-loving drivers and discerning audiophiles alike. The Mark Levinson® Premium Surround Sound Audio System powers out 5.1 discrete channels of pulsating musical accompaniment beside, below and behind you, offering you superb fidelity for your soundtrack.

RC F’s revised Blind Spot Monitor system uses quasi-millimeter wave radar to detect vehicles approaching from behind – at a higher speed and from a greater distance. By changing radar orientation from horizontal to rear, the sensory range is extended up to 60 meters behind you and into adjacent lanes.
