2017 Lexus LC 500: 467hp V8 Gets Ten-Speed Auto, New Platform
Toyota is going to use the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) across the lineup of its namesake brand. On the Toyota Prius, it was heavily lauded for offering improved driving dynamics and better fuel economy, so it should be a great boon to Toyota’s other models as well.
There are other plans for the Lexus brand though. The premium division is going to underpin its vehicles with a brand-new GA-L platform, which stands for Global Architecture – Luxury.
And the first model to be adopting these fresh luxury bones is the 2017 Lexus LC 500 that runs on a 5.0L V8 engine that cooks up 467hp and 389lb-ft torque. With that output, it accomplishes 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds.
Accompanying the adoption of GA-L is the a ten-speed auto transmission as well as a torque converter. They should help enhance drive smoothness, handling, and of course fuel economy.
The 354hp hybrid Lexus LC 500h however uses a four-speed auto, but should be underpinned by the new GA-L platform as well.
